About these gif tools

Animated GIFs are notoriously heavy, and most editors break the animation while trying to shrink them. These tools handle frames safely: animations stay intact, with no broken or partial frames.

Because browsers cannot reliably re-encode animation frames, GIF processing happens server-side, for the current request only. Your GIF is never stored or shared, and the result downloads straight back to you.

HOW TO MAKE A GIF SMALLER

  • Check the dimensions and frame count first with the GIF Viewer
  • Resize the width down: dimensions are the single biggest factor in GIF size
  • Crop away borders and empty space so every pixel earns its place
  • Reduce frames in Compress GIF when the motion can survive a lower frame rate
  • Remove the background for stickers and overlays that need transparency

Why GIFs are so large

A GIF stores every frame as an indexed image, with none of the modern video compression that makes an MP4 of the same clip dramatically smaller. A few seconds of animation at full size can easily weigh more than a high-resolution photo.

The levers that matter are dimensions, frame count and colour complexity. Halving the width roughly quarters the size, dropping unneeded frames compounds the saving, and the optimizer squeezes what remains.

Transparent GIFs for stickers and overlays

The background remover detects a flat background colour, removes it from every frame and exports a transparent GIF, with a live preview so you can tune the colour and tolerance before processing.

Smart fill removes only background connected to the image edges, so matching colours inside your subject are preserved. The result works as a sticker or overlay anywhere animated GIFs are supported.

GIF Tools FAQ

How do I compress a GIF without ruining the animation?

Use Compress GIF: it resizes the frames, optionally keeps fewer of them, and re-encodes the animation so frames stay intact. Reducing the width is the biggest single saving.

Are my GIFs uploaded?

GIF frames have to be processed server-side, so the file is sent for the current request only. It is never stored, never shared, and the result is returned straight to your browser.

Can I make a GIF background transparent?

Yes. The GIF Background Remover strips a flat background colour from every frame and exports a transparent GIF, with an instant preview before anything is processed.

Why does my GIF get bigger after editing?

Transparent GIFs can come out larger than heavily optimized originals because every frame must stay complete. Shrinking the width in Advanced options usually brings the size back down.
