Privacy Policy

The short version: your images never reach us. CompressImage.ca processes images locally in your browser, and we collect only the limited information needed to operate, secure, and improve the website.

1. Who we are

CompressImage.ca is a Canadian browser-based image optimization website operated from Ontario, Canada. We provide tools that help users compress, resize, convert, crop, rotate, remove metadata from, and otherwise optimize images.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, what we do not collect, how we use limited technical information, how third-party services may be involved, and how you can contact us about privacy-related questions.

2. Our privacy-first promise

CompressImage.ca is built around a simple privacy principle: your image files should stay on your device. The image tools on this website run locally in your web browser. Your selected files are not uploaded to our servers for processing.

  • Your images are not uploaded to, received by, stored on, or processed by our servers.
  • We cannot see your images.
  • We do not analyze your images.
  • We do not sell, share, or use your images for advertising.
  • We do not use your images to train artificial intelligence models.
  • We do not require user accounts for the image tools.
  • We do not collect payment information for the free tools.

3. Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to CompressImage.ca and the browser-based tools available on this website. It does not apply to third-party websites, advertisements, services, or links that may appear on or be linked from CompressImage.ca. Those third parties have their own privacy policies and practices.

4. Your images and files

When you choose an image file in one of our tools, your browser reads that file locally so the selected action can be performed. Depending on the tool, this may include compression, resizing, conversion, cropping, rotation, flipping, metadata removal, or similar image optimization functions.

The original image and the processed output remain on your device unless you choose to download, save, upload, or share them using your own browser, operating system, or another service. CompressImage.ca does not receive a copy of the original image or the optimized image.

Because we do not receive your image files, we cannot recover, restore, review, access, or delete them from our servers. If you close your browser tab, clear your browser data, or delete a file from your own device, we cannot retrieve it for you.

5. Image metadata

Some image files contain metadata, such as camera model, timestamps, location information, colour profile information, copyright details, editing history, or other embedded information. If you use a tool that removes metadata, that processing is performed locally in your browser.

We do not receive, inspect, or store your image metadata. You are responsible for deciding whether to preserve or remove metadata from your files. Removing metadata may improve privacy, but it may also remove information you intended to keep, such as copyright, attribution, colour profile, accessibility, or provenance information.

6. Information we collect

We try to collect as little information as reasonably possible. The limited information we may collect falls into the categories below.

Server logs

Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically record standard technical log information when your browser requests a page. This may include your IP address, browser user agent, device type, operating system, referring page, requested pages, date and time of access, and similar diagnostic information.

Server logs are used for security monitoring, abuse prevention, debugging, performance analysis, and maintaining the reliability of the website. We do not use server logs to identify individual visitors unless necessary to investigate abuse, security incidents, or legal obligations.

Contact form information

If you contact us through the contact form, we receive the information you choose to submit, such as your name, email address, subject, and message.

We use contact form information only to respond to your inquiry, manage support requests, protect the website from spam or abuse, and keep reasonable business records. We do not add contact form users to a mailing list unless they clearly request it. We do not sell contact form information.

Cookies

CompressImage.ca may use a small number of functional cookies required for basic website operation. For example, Laravel, our web framework, may use session or security cookies to operate forms and protect against cross-site request forgery.

Browser storage

Some tools may use your browser's temporary memory, cache, local storage, IndexedDB, or similar browser storage while processing images or remembering non-sensitive tool preferences. This storage is controlled by your browser and device.

You can clear browser storage through your browser settings. Clearing browser data may remove saved preferences or temporary local data related to CompressImage.ca.

Advertising information

We may display advertisements served by third parties, including Google AdSense, to help keep the tools free. Third-party advertising providers may use cookies, pixels, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve ads, measure ad performance, prevent fraud, limit repeated ads, and personalize or contextualize advertising.

Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to CompressImage.ca or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to users based on visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.

You can manage personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings. Canadian users may also use AdChoices tools in Canada to manage interest-based advertising choices from participating companies.

Because your images are processed locally in your browser, advertising providers do not receive your image files from CompressImage.ca.

Analytics

CompressImage.ca may use privacy-conscious analytics to understand aggregate usage, improve performance, identify technical issues, and understand which tools are most useful. Analytics, if used, does not give us access to your image files because your image files are not uploaded to us.

If we add analytics or measurement tools that materially change how personal information is collected, this policy will be updated.

7. How we use information

We use the limited information described in this policy for the following purposes:

  • to respond to messages sent through the contact form;

  • scan your images for advertising, profiling, or machine learning purposes;
  • sell your personal information;
  • create user accounts for the free browser tools;
  • collect payment card details for the free browser tools;
  • add contact form users to a mailing list without consent.

9. How we share information

We do not share your images because we do not receive them. We may share limited technical, contact, or operational information only in the circumstances described below.

Service providers

We may use trusted service providers to host the website, deliver email, protect the website from abuse, process contact form messages, provide advertising, measure performance, or perform similar operational services.

These providers may process limited information on our behalf or independently according to their own privacy policies. For example, a hosting provider may process server log data, an email provider may process contact form messages, and advertising providers may process cookie or device information for ad delivery and measurement.

Advertising partners

If ads are shown on CompressImage.ca, advertising partners may collect information directly from your browser through their own scripts, cookies, pixels, or similar technologies. Advertising partners do not receive your image files from CompressImage.ca.

10. Hosting and location of processing

CompressImage.ca is operated from Ontario, Canada, and the website is hosted in Canada. Image processing takes place locally in your browser on your own device.

Some third-party services, such as advertising, email, security, or analytics providers, may process limited technical or contact information outside Canada, including in the United States or other countries. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from Canadian privacy laws, and information may be accessible to courts, law enforcement, or government authorities in those jurisdictions where legally required.

11. Retention

Because your images are not uploaded to us, we do not retain original images or processed image outputs on our servers.

Server logs are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for security, debugging, abuse prevention, and operational purposes, then deleted, rotated, or anonymized according to our hosting and maintenance practices.

Contact form messages may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry, maintain business records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, or comply with legal obligations. You may ask us to delete a contact form message you sent, subject to any legal or security-related need to retain it.

Cookies and browser storage remain on your device according to your browser settings, unless you clear them earlier.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the limited information we handle. These safeguards may include HTTPS encryption, secure configuration, access controls, spam protection, log monitoring, software updates, and limiting the amount of personal information we collect.

No website, browser, device, or method of transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for using a secure device and browser, avoiding untrusted browser extensions, and being careful when processing sensitive images on shared or public devices.

13. Privacy breach handling

If we become aware of a security incident involving personal information under our control, we will assess the incident and take appropriate steps to contain it, investigate it, and reduce potential harm.

Because we do not have user accounts and do not receive your image files, most privacy requests are simple: we usually have no image data, account profile, or uploaded-file history to retrieve or delete. If you submitted a contact form message, we may be able to locate it using the email address you provided.

15. Children's privacy

CompressImage.ca is a general-audience website and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the image tools do not require accounts and do not upload images to us, we do not knowingly maintain image files or profile data for users of any age.

16. International visitors

CompressImage.ca is based in Canada, but it may be accessible from other countries. If you access the website from outside Canada, you understand that limited technical information may be processed in Canada and, where third-party services are used, in other jurisdictions.

We will handle privacy requests in accordance with applicable law, but this policy is written primarily for a Canadian website operated from Ontario, Canada.
