Color Picker FAQ

Common questions about picking colours and palettes from images.

How do I pick a colour from an image?

Drop in your image, then move over it to preview the colour under your cursor at high magnification and click to add it to your picked list. You can copy any colour as HEX, RGB or HSL.

How does the palette extraction work?

Extract Palette samples the whole image and groups the pixels into a set of dominant colours using k-means clustering. You choose how many colours you want and how to sort them.

Can I export colours for CSS or Tailwind?

Yes. You can copy your colours as plain HEX, RGB or HSL, as CSS custom properties, as SCSS variables, or as a ready-to-paste Tailwind config block. You can also download the palette as a PNG.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is read and sampled entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so your images stay private.

What image formats are supported?

You can use JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP images. Anything your browser can display can be sampled for colours.
