Best practices for better results

Image optimization works best when you choose the right balance between file size, visual quality, dimensions, format compatibility and privacy. These tips help you get a cleaner result.

  • Start from the original image whenever possible.
  • Review the output before publishing or deleting your original file.
  • Use related tools like resize, convert or metadata removal when you need a more specific result.
  • Choose the right format for the job: JPEG for photos, PNG for sharp graphics and WebP for modern websites.

What happens to your images?

When you choose a file, your browser reads it locally and creates the processed version on your own device. CompressImage.ca does not receive the original image or the finished file.

That local-first approach is useful for personal photos, client work, screenshots, documents, product images and other files you do not want to upload to a third-party server.

When to use another tool

The best tool depends on what you are trying to fix. Compression reduces file size, resizing changes dimensions, conversion changes format, cropping changes framing, and metadata removal cleans hidden information from the file.

WebP to JXL FAQ

Why convert WebP to JXL?

JPEG XL is a newer format with excellent compression and lossless support, aimed at future-proof storage. This converter creates a JXL copy from your WebP locally.

Can the JXL be lossless?

Set the quality to 100 for a fully lossless JPEG XL. Lower values produce smaller files that look identical to the WebP.

Does transparency carry over?

Yes. Any transparency in the WebP is preserved in the JPEG XL output.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The WebP is decoded and the JPEG XL is encoded entirely in your browser, so nothing is sent to a server.
